The Festive Season at Inchydoney

 
Snowy Inchydoney
As the wonderful festive season approaches, we have lots of news to share with you from Inchydoney. We would firstly, like to take the oppurtunity to wish all our guests and followers a Happy and Safe Christmas, spent in the company of loved ones and family.

Our Christmas Season this year is jam packed with events and activities in the hotel and the local area. On Saturday the 30th November, we will open our two pop-up Christmas Shops in Bandon and Clonakilty and on the 21st & 22nd December our Christmas Fair will take place in the hotel.  Our kitchen team have been really busy preparing gorgeous Christmas Treats from Plum Puddings, to Jams, Biscuits, Cakes, Oils and Sweets. You will also be able to browse our collection of ELEMIS gift gets as well as our beautiful Inchydoney Hampers in the shops and at the fair.

No Christmas is complete here without our Christmas Party Night, which takes place on Saturday 14th December. This is a party with a twist however! - Santa's Big BBQ offers an alternative option to party with  friends and colleagues. With good food, good music and lots of surprises along the way - this promises to be a night to remember....

Our theatrical events continue in December, when we will host Staring at Lakes - An Evening with Michael Harding, award winning author and on New Years Eve, we are delighted to welcome Rebecca Storm to the Inchydoney Stage.

As a litle pre Christmas Treat, we are also delighted to announce our Flash Sale, details of which are below as well as the launch of our gorgeous Spirit of Christmas Ritual in the Island Spa,  complete with mince pies and mulled wine - who could resist! For the budding baker, our Chef Adam Medcalf also shares his recipe for Gingerbread Biscuits, a great treat for the  young and not so young....

Staring at Lakes - An Evening with Michael Harding
Reading and Talk Based on His Acclaimed, No. 1 Best-Selling Memoir

Following on from his recent award for Best Non Fiction Book of the Year at the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards,  Michael Harding will visit Inchydoney on Sunday 15 December at 8pm as part of a national tour inspired by his acclaimed memoir, Staring at Lakes : A Memoir of Love, Melancholy and Magical Thinking. The renowned columnist, actor, playwright and novelist dazzles with wit, philosophy and his unique take on modern Ireland as he shares the stories that fuelled his best-selling memoir.

Tickets are €18 and are available at the hotel. We are delighted to offer a special pre concert menu on the evening in the Gulfstream Restaurant for €35. Prior booking is essential.

New Years Eve with Rebecca Storm

Rebecca Storm, Ireland’s leading lady of musical theatre, the acclaimed star of Blood Brothers, Evita and Les Miserables, will makes her West Cork debut with a New Year's Eve Gala Concert in Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa on Tuesday 31 December at 8pm.

Accompanied by a full band, Rebecca will perform musical theatre classics and personal favourites. An Intimate Evening with Rebecca Storm will include songs from her leading roles inEvita, Les Miserables,  Annie, and her anthem tune, 'Tell Me It's Not True' from Blood Brothers.

Tickets for are €30 and can be booked with the hotel. Pre-concert dinner is available in the Gulfstream Restaurant for €45 and prior booking is essential.  

For those who want to make a night of it. our two-night New Year's Eve Break  includes mulled wine on arrival, 2 nights' accommodation in a deluxe room with ocean view balcony/terrace, full Irish buffet breakfast each morning, pre-theatre dinner on one evening, tickets for Rebecca Storm on New Year’s Eve, followed by ringing in the New Year in Dunes Pub & Bistro. Island Spa Christmas Ritual

This December, our team in the Island Spa invite you to slip into the festive spirit and unwrap an early Christmas present with the Spirit of Christmas Ritual. Glow brighter than the North Star with the sumptuous package that combines three luxurious treatments into an indulgent, seasonally inspired experience.

The Spirit of Christmas Ritual consists of three exquisite treatments, the first of which is a glittering body exfoliation which uses diamond powder reinforced with mandarin oil to smooth the skin and improve tone and texture. The second step of the ritual is a truly festive pampering body wrap which combines assess’ milk, known for its healing and cosmetic benefits, and Christmas spices cinnamon, nutmeg and clove to envelop guests in an all-encompassing experience. To complete the ritual, mandarin orange oil is applied through massage, helping to stimulate the immune system against the harsh seasonal weather with its copious amounts of Vitamin C.

Ginger Bread Cookies -A Treat for Santa Claus
A Recipe from the Inchydoney Kitchen


Our Head Chef Adam Medcalf has agreed to share his recipe for Little Ginger Bread Cookies. We think that these would be a lovely treat for Santa Claus with a glass of cold milk!...  that is if there are any left over.....


Inchydoney Gingerbread Cookies

400 g Plain Flour

¾ teaspoon baking powder

2 teaspoons ground ginger

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground all spice

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

½ teaspoon salt

180 g unsalted butter (at room temperature)

125 g soft dark brown sugar or muscavado sugar

1 egg

125 g treacle

 Method

  • Mix together butter and sugar, until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg and treacle and mix gently. Add dry ingredients, which have been sieved, one teaspoon at a time.
  • Roll out to 1cm thick and cut into biscuit shapes. Choose Star Shapes, Christmas Trees or get creative and go freestyle!
  • Bake ginergerbread at 170 degrees for approximately 12 minutes.
